About the Book:

One day is all it takes…

As a bounty hunter, Rhael chases down the Corrupted, people with unnatural abilities too powerful for the rest of society—something he learned firsthand when they killed his father years ago. But when Rhael and his crew are ambushed by the very people they were sent to capture, it changes everything.

Phessipi leads a desperate group of rebels who are fighting for their lives just as much as their freedom. Any day now, a group of bounty hunters could swoop down on them. They all look to her for answers, but keeping one step ahead of The Order might be more than she can handle.

Levas wants peace and order under the ruling class, something he’s devoted his life of service to, but the threat of a rebel uprising might be enough to upend the world he’s worked so hard to keep together. As the leader of the army, he’s always tried to be honorable, but with how fast things are changing, he might not be able to do that much longer.

My Thoughts:

The first in a new fantasy fiction series, The Silver Crystal follows multiple protagonists on their journey. I really liked the premise of the book and two books later, I am excited to start on the third in the series. In this book, one story line follows Rhael, a bounty hunter, and his small group as they chases down people with abilities and helps to suppress these by hammering crystals into their hands. Another follows a rebel group of ability users as they fight for their lives against those who seek to hunt them as well as the Kingdom. Finally there is the commander of the army, Levas, who resides in the main city of the Kingdom.

As story line builds, the reader is taken on a journey along with the different characters through the Red Kingdom. The build up to the different rivalries, the different shades of each character and the direction of the plot were very well developed and thought out. Rhael’s journey surprised and shocked me the most, but I really enjoyed his character growth and transitions. I could not stop turning the pages, just to know where each character was headed and whom they would encounter next.

The author’s style of writing is wonderful, the dialogue and plot just flowing across the pages, making sure that the reader remains engrossed until the end, hoping for more. It has been a while since I read a book in the fantasy fiction genre that held my attention for long and this is just the beginning of the series! I am indeed looking forward to all the plot twists that started in this story to continue and take me along for on an exciting adventure!
